Tofurky Treehouse Tempeh Review

Tempeh is one of the plant-based meat substitutes that we use the least in our house. We tend to use tofu, beans, and seitan more regularly. I have a feeling that's about to change. Before I get into that, though, a little bit about Tofurky’s tempeh. Like all tempeh, this one is a cake made from slightly fermented soybeans. It's vegan, non-gmo, gluten-free, kosher, and certified organic.

We've tried a couple of other brands of tempeh, but recently we tried Tofurky's offering and it kind of blew us away. Right out of the package it, admittedly, doesn't look too appetizing - like beige-colored beans pressed into a cake. After crumbling it and cooking for about 5 minutes with some oil, salt, and pepper though, it’s a different story.

The result was tempeh crumbles that were golden brown, crispy on the outside, and still tender on the inside. They had a super savory flavor, with a slight tanginess from the fermentation. The crumbles were a perfect addition to our Thai khao soi, and I'm already looking for more recipes to use this delicious tempeh in!
